Here at last….Snow in Steamboat Springs, Colorado
By PK | November 5, 2008
I sat last week, gazing out onto the mountains, with only a month left before the grand opening of Steamboat’s Ski Resort, and no snow. Sure, there was a scattering of snow on the mountaintops, but truly not enough to strap on skis or grab your snowboard and have some great winter fun.
Today proves to be a different story….we’re expecting 5-10 inches of the powdery stuff, which delights me. I’m ready to suit up and build a snowman and eat some snow cream. Coming from the deep south, snow was a rare occurrence. Seeing all this snow, makes me want to go out and play like a child who’s been deprived from a sweet treat.
I’m experimenting photographing all this cold, white stuff and after using my flash for one picture, was totally delighted that all the snow flakes coming down showed up!
We live within view of both ski slopes, the Steamboat Ski Resort and Howelsen Hill Ski Jump. Here in the background of this photo, you can see Howelsen Hill, where the olympic jumpers practice.
A close-up of Howelsen Hill Ski Jump.
My world here in Colorado has changed dramatically and turned into a winter wonderland, full of new opportunities for outdoor activities. So, look for further posts of my new experiences in exploring Colorado as I take on skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling.
Bundle Up! It’s cold outside!
