Snowshoeing Rabbit Ear’s Pass, Steamboat Springs, Colorado
By PK | November 10, 2008
Never in my lifetime did I think I would ever be snowshoeing! I always wondered what it would be like. It looked easy enough to do, heck-you’re just walking. But looks can be deceiving. Trampling through snow can be tough and you definitely have to lift your feet. Only don’t do as I did when I took my first step….step on your other snowshoe!
Okay, let’s remember…baby steps at first. And Dalton asked me if I wanted to run.
Uh….definitely a beginner as I still have to watch where I put my feet. Remember, it could be hazardous to one’s body if you step on that other snowshoe.
Beautiful scenery….but I found myself with the urge to grab some Christmas decorations and run (without snowshoes) and spruce things up a bit!
Who could not resist spending a whole day here, in this spot, at this moment? Awesome!
A dad and his sons snowboarding. Snowboarding has to be for youths. I can not and will not plant both feet on one board and let loose. It won’t happen. But this little guy sure was giving it his all.
The aspens look all silvery and gold. It has me humming Burl Ives’ song, Silver and Gold.
I’m telling you….I should know….I’m from the South….it looks like cotton growing!
Okay, honey, we can build that cabin right there!
More evidence that I left ‘bigfoot’ tracks in the snow.
The views as we were leaving the top of Rabbit Ear’s Pass.
Now I can finally say, I went snowshoeing. I thoroughly enjoyed my new outdoor activity and am sure to come back again and again. You got to love Colorful Colorado!

Oh how beautiful! I’ll bet you used muscles you haven’t used in a while. Are you sore?

Not sore one bit. Guess it was all that hiking and hunting I did during the summer. It sure was fun though!

Thanks for the step by step tuition on snowshoeing. You can get back to playing tennis with the shoe in the spring. How far did you walk, I didn;t see your 4×4 in any pictures? - And what lovely pictures!

All of the trail heads at Rabbit Ear’s are right off Hwy 40, so we parked the truck at the parking lot and headed up the trail. We walked back a ways without snowshoes cause it was uphill. In all we probably walked over a mile back the trail. I put them on to walk all the way back, but came to a steep bank and kept sliding down. That was funny and when Dalton actually should have been taking pics. I removed them then but we were already close to the truck. This definitely was a fun experience!!!
