Abilene, Kansas
By PK | June 30, 2008
Enroute to Colorado we lived in Abilene. At the time when we moved, we didn’t know how long we’d live there. Abilene is full of western history….the kind we like. Horses, cowboys, ranching, cattle, and Wild Bill Hickok. Wild Bill was the sheriff there briefly, back in the olden days when Abilene was still wild and there was little justice that was considered law. Most folks back then had their own form of justice.
If it wasn’t for the tornadoes and the desire to move even further west to Colorado, we would have stayed. In Abilene, the folks are friendly, the most generous people I think I’ve ever met. A place where you was always welcomed with a smile. You just never met a stranger in Abilene.
While there, we toured the town and one of the most favorite was Old Abilene Town. Old Abilene is known for being one of the first cattle boom towns, where cattle was driven from Texas to Abilene to be shipped east by train. Abilene was known as the roughest, toughest, wildest town in the west. You can imagine how fascinated Dalton and I was to live in this modern day Abilene and still see where it all happened. We share with you our adventures…
