Fish Creek Falls
By PK | June 29, 2008
This is the most awe-inspiring place I have ever been. To achieve this, you have to hike 5 miles up steep, rocky paths, along side of cliffs which I thought I’d never do being afraid of heights, to reach the pinnacle of this trip. The falls at the bottom are pictured first, you only have to descend about 200 feet to reach. Then you cross a bridge to ascend to the absolute most beautiful sites your eyes have ever seen.

We started our ascend, eventually climbing about 3000 feet to the top. The elevation when we began was 7700 feet, our destination would be over 10,000 feet. I had a feeling my poor feet would soon be abused.
Don’t leave yet….Come on, you can do it!!!

That’s Dalton showing off…he’s been to Colorado a lot. Me..it’s my first rodeo here. But, rest assured, I get brave later as you’ll see. *smiles
A little diversion off the main path and we saw another smaller fall.
The path gets rockier….but little did I know what’s ahead of me.
Time for a break…some peanut butter crackers, hmmmm!
The mountains around us were riddled with rock cliffs and ledges, little did I know I would soon know what’s it’s like to be a mountain goat.
Almost halfway…come on!!! If I can do it, you can too!!!
Across the gorge I shot this water trickling down the mountain.
I stopped to take this picture, actually it was only an excuse, my right calf was burning. But I couldn’t stop, I had to keep going. This is all part of my training for the Flat Tops, the most ultimate of all hikes. I can do it!!!!
The surrounding scenery is quite impressive. That’s Steamboat Springs below, our starting point, of course, that leg of it was by truck.
Single file everyone…the cliffs are just ahead.
Geeze…he is such a clown. We sure had fun during our hike. NOT funny when he pretended to loose his footing.
I am woman…hear me roar!! Repeat after me…I will not be a wussy!!
We are about 10,000 feet…that’s Steamboat again. Enlarge picture and to the left you can see Howelsen Hill Ski Jump (green strip) where the Olympians train.
Okay…just around the corner…up a little higher, and, oh my!!!
Hope you enjoyed our hike to Fish Creek Falls without the sore feet, the sweat, and breathless moments, and I’m not talking about scenery here…I’m talking about the climb! Oh yeah…and you won’t have to worry about YOUR boyfriend filling your backpack with ROCKS!!! Geeze…
YOU ARE THERE VIDEO…let fully download, then play. ENJOY!!!

What an absolutely awesome hike! I should think you’re well in shape too! Great pictures, did you do the hike in one day? We’ve planned to do some hiking in the Pyrenees this sumer, I don’t know if there are any falls of that size … It’s worth all the foot-aches, don’t you agree?

Well worth the blisters to see those falls. Trying to lose the chunk before the big hike, The Flat Tops, one of our last wilderness areas. Surprisingly, it only took us four hours. We are just hiking fools!
