    Grand Lake, Colorado

    By PK | August 8, 2008

On the western slopes to the entrance of the Rocky Mountain National Park, rests the town of Grand Lake. Nestled and surrounded by the Rocky Mountain National Park along state route 34 in north central Colorado is one of the first resort communities.

Grand Lake has an elevation of 8369′, here you’ll find pure mountain air and exceptional outdoor activities. In the summer you can enjoy fishing, boating, water-skiing, hiking, mountain biking, golf, dude ranches and horseback riding. But playtime doesn’t end with the summer, in the winter locals snowmobile or cross-country ski down the main street of town. Grand Lake is the snowmobile capital of Colorado. There’s also dog-sledding, snowshoeing and ice fishing in this small Alpine Village.

Come join us as we explore this charming, lakeside community.

There are abundant unique shops, restaurants, saloons and galleries just waiting to be explored.

You won’t find concrete sidewalks here, as the historic western boardwalk leads you throughout downtown Grand Lake. Come on, let’s go visit some of the shops…

Make sure you stop in at the Grand Lake Emporium for a souvenir. If you’re interested in silver jewelry, the Silver Moose is the place to shop.

Hitch up your horse at the hitching post and join the locals at the popular Lariat Saloon that features live rock music almost every night. Look for the talking buffalo in the honest, eclectic Western decor.

Feel like bartering? The Wild West Trading Company has lots of unique items for sale.

Grand Lake boasts three lakes for your boating or fishing pleasure. Grand Lake is the largest natural lake in Colorado, and nearby are Shadow Mountain Lake and Lake Granby. Pictured below is the Granby Lake Marina. You can’t miss it’s unique feature.

Sombrero Stables is North Colorado’s Largest Horse Outfitters. Saddle up and join them on a wagon or trail ride, a Continental Divide Adventure, or a Fishing/Hunting Trip. They offer many more rides and adventures including a Breakfast or Steak Fry Ride.

They’re all saddled and waiting for you!

The fun never ends here in Grand Lake, Colorado. Hope to see you there!!!

Oh yeah, we LOVE Grand Lake and Grandby. We usually get there via Trailridge entering the Park at Estes. Usually stay at Silver Creek resort — just a hop, skip and a jump from Granby. Best vacation site ever!
