Incredible Bull Elk - The BIG DADDIES

    By PK | August 3, 2008

How many times can a person say, ‘OH, OH, OH?’ in a row?? I don’t think I stopped once saying that when we seen these beautiful bull Elks on top of Trail Ridge Road in the Rocky Mountain National Park. That’s me sneaking closer for an awesome closeup of this huge elk.

They are docile now, their rut season not beginning for another month, though still dangerous to approach too closely. This big daddy didn’t mind as I was still 50 yards away. Isn’t he a beauty??

Another shot of this brave daddy as he continues to graze and ignores the people who gathered to take pictures of his magnificence.

These two big boys are friendly now, but when rut season begins, they’ll be clashing their antlers in competition for a favorite cow elk.

Relaxed and enjoying the sun is another huge bull elk.

It was amazing to see so many huge, amazing elks such as these.

This one’s antlers are huge for the size of his body, but he is still magnificent.

During our second trip back through late in the evening, we seen this beautiful boy as he grazed down toward the western bottom of the Rocky Mountain National Park after a cooling rain.

All of these beautiful bull elks are protected within their environment in the Rocky Mountain National Park. Certain regulations apply when encountering elk within the park. You should never approach or feed any wildlife within the park, nor use flash on any camera. Do not scare or try to call them. They are protected from hunters and live their lives in peace.
