    Kayaking and Rafting

    By PK | June 25, 2008

He says ‘yes’….I say ‘no’… Kayaking and Rafting are very popular in this area and it’s no wonder, the rivers and creeks here are steaming with rapids and fast-flowing water. I have to keep asking…is that normal for it to flow like that? And the answer I get is always yes. Okay…. does that mean ‘I’ have to jump into a narrow canoe or inflatable raft and go ‘flying’ down a tributary??? No…no…no…

This seems to be one thing Dalton and I do not agree upon. He really wants to go kayaking, or so he says. It raises my eyebrows every time he brings up the subject. He’s all gung-ho about it. I’m thinking we are probably a little too old to go jumping in at this stage. For one, I’d like to reach retirement age. Kayaking isn’t a sport for pre-retirees.

    “What about rafting,” he asks.

    I think for a minute…

    Then a few more minutes…

    “Maybe,” I answer.

“Can you guarantee there won’t be any dangerous rapids?”

“But that would be the fun part!”

    “No, it wouldn’t.”

    “Yeah, think of the excitement!”

“That’s the part I can’t get out of my mind!”

But he’s determined. And so am I. So, I’m stalling. Why? Because these rivers will ’slow’ down as the season progresses. Then, and only then, will he get me into a raft, but never a kayak!!! No..no…no!
