    Kremmling, Colorado, a Hunting Mecca

    By PK | September 19, 2008

About 100 miles west of Denver or 50 miles south of Steamboat in Grand County lies Kremmling, Colorado surrounded by the Routt National Forest on the northwest and the Arapaho National Forest on the northeast and southeast.

Kremmling is known for its friendly, small town atmosphere. It is centrally located in Colorado’s northern Rocky Mountains. This quaint, wholesome community is a haven for hunters with it’s close proximity to National Forest public hunting lands.

The town is located approximately at the mouth of the Blue River and Muddy Creek where they join the headwaters of the Colorado River. East of town you’ll travel through Byers Canyon, a short gorge on the upper Colorado River. The canyon is approximately 8 miles long on US Hwy 40 between Kremmling and Hot Sulphur Springs.

Many other activities are available in Kremmling which include snowmobiling, skiing, snowshoeing, fishing, hiking, camping, hunting, and biking.

While you’re in Kremmling, whether you’re hunting in the area, or just passing through, stop and see the  unique sights this small town offers.

Kremmling has several eateries, I highly recommend eating breakfast at the Moose Cafe, another I recommend is the Sportsman’s Bar & Grill where we stopped in one evening for a steak dinner. Great service there!

Another great place to eat is the Rocky Mountain Bar and Grill, Gerry ate lunch there one day and said the food was great.

Finding a place to stay during hunting season requires making reservations well in advance. Some of the local areas to stay are:

Bob’s Western Motel, located at 110 W. Park Ave (US Hwy 40), 970-724-3266

    Cliffside Inn, located at 113 N. 6th St., 877-254-3374

Historic Hotel Eastin, located at 105 S. Second St., 866-546-0815

Red Mountain RV Park, located at 2201 Central Ave., 877-375-9593 (very friendly and helpful, open year round)

For some reason every time Dalton and I visit this area, which is often, I think of the song from Green Acres. Although neither of us would want to live in NY, Manhattan or on Park Avenue. This is the place where we want to be…

Looks like real cowboy country. Even though I’m not Muslim, I’d love to visit this Mecca once a year!

Oh man, I am SO jealous of you! I wish I lived in close proximity to all of that beauty! I think I mentioned before that I adore the mountains, but it’s really more than that. I get such an immense feeling of peace whenever I’m there. It’s absolutely a natural high and the feeling of being one with nature is indescribable. Thanks so much for sharing your road trips with all of us. It’s almost as good as being there myself. ;)

I am not big on hunting, but I do enjoy watching the wildlife, in their natural habitats. The old west look, is awesome also. I love it.

Wow PK! is anything for sale there? I’d move to that town! Looks like our kind of place!

    5. PK Says:

We’ve been looking, Barb. Want us to look for you and Cowboy? Hey, we could be neighbors!
