    Rabbit Ear’s Mountain Range

    By PK | July 9, 2008

Look familiar? It should because it’s the picture I used to make my header. Dalton and I traveled over Rabbit Ear Pass to get to Steamboat Springs, Colorado back in May, before we moved here.

Rabbit Ear’s Mountain Range runs east and west just south of Steamboat and is a spur of the Front Range Mountain Range in the Rocky Mountains in north central Colorado. It’s highest peak is Parkview Peak at 12, 296, followed by Sheep Mountain and Elk Mountain.

I’ve probably been to all three, but couldn’t tell you which one is which, except for this one with it’s familiar ‘rabbit ears’ on top. That was the main reason I grabbed my camera and started clicking away. Little did I know this picture would soon become my ‘theme’ on this website.

Views from the Rabbit Ear’s Pass are insurpassable and snow is plentiful in the winter making it a popular skiing and snowshoeing spot. You can bet I’ll be there this winter in snowshoes. Dalton already has me a pair and I can’t wait to try them out!!! Lots of places to hike, camp, and fish in the area.

Steamboat is about a 45 mile drive to Rabbit Ear’s Pass, but is well worth the drive for it’s beauty. When we moved, it was impossible to pull the RV over it, as on the west side the grade is 7% and though we are always up on getting thrills, that was one we didn’t particularly care to take.

This picture I took at the top of Rabbit Ear’s Pass…the view is absolutely breathtaking, as there are many such views here in Colorado. I still haven’t caught my breath!!! The elevation here is roughly almost 10,000 feet. Don’t you just feel like you could stretch a little and touch the clouds??

And alas, coming down from Rabbit Ear’s Pass on Hwy 40, we reached Steamboat. This was my first view of where I was going to live. We made it official on June 1, 2008.

I hope you enjoyed this part of my journey to Steamboat. I’ve since discovered quite a bit about the area, what it has to offer, and the people. You’re welcome to check out the other posts as they are filled with the sites I’ve seen and experienced. Living in Colorado is a ‘dream come true’.

Come visit ‘Colorful Colorado’ any time…you’re always welcome here!
