Steamboat Pro Rodeo, June 13, 2008

    By PK | June 14, 2008

*This story is dedicated to Richard G. Fox, beloved father of Dalton who quietly passed away June 12, 2008. He loved to listen to Dalton’s stories of Dalton busting broncos, riding on long, dusty cattle drives, and hunting elk and deer in the great Rocky Mountains. I only had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Fox once, right before we left Pa on our current great adventure. But you could see the love and pride in this man’s eyes as he listened to his son. May he rest in peace.

Steamboat Springs Pro Rodeo, June 13, 2008

    Before the rodeo…..

Steamboat Springs celebrated their first Pro Rodeo Event of the season. The weather was perfect, the sun shining brightly as the cowboys prepared for the ride of their lives. The bulls were stomping their feet, the broncos lulling in the last rays of sun. The arena and grandstand silent…

(author’s note: enlarge the pics for optimal viewing)

    The clown…

The clown mingled with the audience, entertaining the children, and signing autographs.

    Evelyn and Mary

Two very sweet ladies I met while at the rodeo.

    The Crowd….

    The Cowboys….

The one good thing about photo blogging is sometimes you don’t need to say a word. The camera captures it all…

    Getting Ready for the Broncs

A Salute to America and our National Anthem…

    The Action…

What we all have been waiting for

This black horse with the blaze face was wicked!

This white horse was one wild bronc!

I had picked a seat front and center of where they’d be broncing…but had to move. I then found myself gatekeeper to the ‘pits’. That was fine with me. It enabled me to take these pics that I otherwise wouldn’t have gotten. Many thanks to the Clown!!!

    Team Penning….

    The Game…

The clown rounded up three girls and three boys and into the arena they went. The object was to run to the dummy horse and jump on and race to the cone and back, then the next had to do the same. Whoever finished first, that team would win. As the game began, the clown said to wait….first they had to put their foreheads on a stick and spin around three times, then go for the horse.

    The Contestants…

    The girls

    The boys

    The Game begins….

    The Winning Team

    The Girls!!!!!!!!!

    The Last Clowns

That wasn’t the end of the rodeo, but unfortunately Dalton had to catch a flight back to PA. And I retired from being gate keeper!

Pure Americana! What great photos, I’ve never seen a real-life rodeo, as it’s something we have here in the UK - don’t know why not, as we have cattle, horses and great countryside. Ah, well. :-)

Oops, that was meant to read… as it’s not something we have here in the UK -
