Steamboat Springs, Colorado
By PK | June 25, 2008
It’s coming up on our one month anniversary for living in Steamboat Springs. At first, I was appalled that everything here seemed to be geared towards tourists, not newcomers. But that stands to reason, this small, isolated community thrives on the business tourists bring to the area. The city is also known as Steamboat, The Boat, or Ski Town USA. Steamboat got it’s name from the many hot springs that sounded like a steamboat.

There are two ski resorts, Steamboat Ski Resort and a smaller Howelsen Hill Ski Area that is the oldest ski area in continuous use in Colorado and has been the training ground for more than 64 Olympians. I have never been skiing…and it depends on how encouraging Dalton will be before I can say I’ll try it! Here’s some shots of the slopes in summer and winter. Winter pictures courtesy of Bill Kress.
