Wyman Living History Ranch & Museum, Craig, Colorado

    By PK | August 13, 2008

What a great way to get the kids geared up for back to school with a learning experience at Wyman Living History Ranch and Museum outside of Craig, located at 94350 Hwy 40. Watch their eyes light up full of wonder at the life-size, stuffed buffalo, actual photos of cowboys and residents from yonder years, antique toys, a sheepherder’s wagon, and Clyde the Elk.

The Pagoda Store, moved from it’s original location in Pagoda, takes you back 100 years in time to the age of cowboys, ranchers, and homesteaders as they lived their life here in Colorado purchasing their goods and supplies.

Some cowboys hung around and visited awhile, sitting on the counter, their spurs chinking the wall under the counter where they rested a spell.

I can picture many a cowboy warming his hands and toes next to this antique wood stove while waiting for his supplies and catching up on all the gossip.

Old barns and outbuildings stand nearby and even a live blacksmith on Fridays demonstrating his skill at a long ago lost art.

Antique wagons, tractors, saws….a man’s big toy’s joy will be found here at Wyman’s Museum.

Skiing sure has it’s roots here, too. You’ll find these ski’s hanging in the main building.

Sleighs such as these were a necessity for traveling with the snows of Colorado.

A sheepherder’s wagon….a different kind of RV from the past…and future. I’ve actually seen some of these being habited throughout Routt County.

And lastly, Clyde the Elk. Count those antlers….10×10 is what I counted. Clyde is 14 years old and must be respected. If you visit, please no flash cameras and keep a good distance from him as to not aggravate him. It would be much appreciated by the owner and caretaker.

Come and visit a spell, it’ll take awhile to see all the actual antique photographs of this area, the trophy room, a complete collection of Colorado license plates, a complete antique kitchen (really awesome), tools, saws, and much, much more. It was such a joy to visit this museum and to discover every exhibit here.

I enjoyed discovering your blog and exploring Colorado with you! We moved from Loveland, CO five years ago after living there for 12 years so it’s nice to reminisce the areas we loved to visit before!
