    Four-Wheelin’ Rabbit Ear’s Mountain, Colorado

    Sunday, November 2nd, 2008

What better way to have fun on a weekend than to load up your four-wheeler and head up to Rabbit Ear’s Pass. It’s a great recreational area filled with snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and lots of forestry trails for hiking, snowshoeing, or four-wheeling.

    Kremmling, Colorado, a Hunting Mecca

    Friday, September 19th, 2008

About 100 miles west of Denver or 50 miles south of Steamboat in Grand County lies Kremmling, Colorado surrounded by the Routt National Forest on the northwest and the Arapaho National Forest on the northeast and southeast.

    The Dead Zone

    Friday, August 22nd, 2008

The Dead Zone….a place where humans dare not enter on four-wheelers, dirt bikes, 4×4 trucks, or mountain bikes. A forest not inhabited by hikers and backpackers. A dirt, mountain road left serene and quiet in the dense woods.

We researched this area for a month anticipating our exploration of The Dead Zone, as we called [...]

    Hunting Season begins August 30

    Thursday, August 21st, 2008

Colorado’s 2008 Hunting Season opens August 30 for archery. I previously couldn’t wait for hunting season to begin, wanting to bring down a big bull elk even knowing the odds were against me. Now, after a summer of photographing the wildlife of mule deer, elks, moose, I’m apprehensive. I can’t help but think of [...]

North Inlet Trail, Grand Lake and Rocky Mountain National Park

    Monday, August 11th, 2008

What’s there to do on a rainy day? Hiking…don’t let the rain stop you from getting outdoors! There are extra precautions you need to be aware of, such as flash floods and lightening, but as neither of these were the case, we decided to take advantage of the cooler weather and check out some [...]

Map of Elk Trail, Routt National Forest, Colorado

    Thursday, July 31st, 2008

First, I’d like to recommend reading, Hiking on an Elk Trail, the beginning of this series.
    Continuing…
I decided to show everyone the mountain where we traveled on the Elk trail. The total length of the hike wasn’t but four miles, but they were the most grueling four miles I’ve ever hiked. We began on the left [...]

    Hiking on an Elk Trail

    Monday, July 28th, 2008

On an earlier occasion, Dalton had seen a huge bull Elk as we were driving and sightseeing. This big daddy bull Elk was headed into a secluded, elongated valley where there weren’t any roads. Now Dalton being the big hunter that he is, and me being the photographer I am, decided we would hike [...]

Steamboat Springs and the Yampa Valley Curse

    Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

The French Trappers were the first to come to Steamboat back in the 1880s and they called the area, ‘Big Bend’, mainly because the Yampa River turns west at this point in the valley. Later after hearing the chugging of the natural springs sounding like a steamboat, Steamboat Springs was born. Steamboat evolved from [...]

    Flat Tops Trail Scenic Byway

    Sunday, July 20th, 2008

The Flat Top Scenic Byway runs from Meeker, Colorado in Rio Blanco County to Yampa, Colorado in Routt County. It consists of 82 miles, of which 40 miles is unpaved dirt or gravel roads. I do want to mention some of these roads have a washboard effect, so hang on tightly and be prepared [...]

    Hiking Rabbit Ear’s Pass

    Saturday, July 19th, 2008

You often hear the phrase, ‘A picture is worth a thousand words,’ and also the phrase, ‘The picture does not do it justice.’ Both those phrases comply with hiking Rabbit Ear’s. I could never in a million years express the view from the top of Rabbit Ear’s, nor do any of the pictures I [...]
