The Clark Store in Clark, Colorado
By PK | October 21, 2008
Many people love the hustle and bustle of a busy city lifestyle. They don’t seem to mind the noise, the pollution, the traffic jams, and the hordes of pedestrians. The same is mindful of new, modern convenience stores with their touch screens to order food, rows upon rows of cooler doors that makes a decision difficult especially when children accompany you, standing in line waiting for your turn at the checkout, then, worse of all, is the same line spoken repeatedly to different customers time and again, if you’re lucky to be spoken to at all.
I managed one of these up-to-date convenience stores with the touch screens to order hot and cold sandwiches, barista beverages, ringing up customers like a herd of cattle with new technological equipment that was more of a computer than a register. Back east are several large convenience monopolies and I worked for the second largest. I’m guilty!
Here in the west, people slow things down. I’m beginning to ‘get the idea’. Gone is the hustle and bustle and the technology that confuses even the wittiest geek. And when I come across a country, laid back, western style convenience store, I want to shout it off the tallest, nearest mountain.
The Clark Store is one of the quaintest, country stores I’ve had the pleasure of entering. Along with gas and groceries, they offer home-baked goods, great hot and cold sandwiches, and an ample choice of drinks amid rustic logs and beams.
The Clark Store also houses the post office, unique gifts…
and wine and spirits.
These home baked goods just make your mouth water…
The ole cash register…
If you’re visiting Clark, stop in for some great food and prop those weary boots next to the wood stove and relax. You’ll find good, friendly folk here in Clark.
